This past weekend we had our first coral reef adventure off the coast of Cairns. The day started with a rainbow and some ominous skies, but luckily we just had to deal with some breezy weather and slightly choppy water. Still fun!!
Our first dive was way off the coast (no land in sight) so that was a little scary, but snorkeling through the reef was really spectacular. The second stop was a tiny cay that we had to wait for the tide to go down to even have it appear! We saw blue starfish, sea turtles, sea cucumbers, and a ton of different kinds of fish (including…yes…NEMO!!)
They had the option of wetsuits for us to wear (supercute, btw) because they thought the water was ‘cold’. The water temperature was 72 degrees….they have clearly never been swimming off the coast of Maine. So after the first stop I ditched the wetsuit - which seemed to make some the crew think I was crazy. Silly Aussies!!
